The U.S. Department of Defense is cracking down on troops, especially female ones, that get plastic surgery without permission from their commanding officer. This is a new problem, and it's all about money. The all-volunteer military in the United States has to pay people competitive (with civilian jobs) wages. So the troops have more money, and plastic surgery has become cheaper. But this stuff, in most cases, is considered "elective" (voluntary) and the troops pay for it themselves. This permission rule is, or usually has been, igno ....

By LORI BORGMANWe have been nipping and tucking our faces, chests and thighs for so long, it is only logical that we now turn the scalpel to the derriere.A young woman was on one of those plastic surgery shows complaining that her perky parts weren't perky enough, her thin parts weren't thin enough and her curvy parts weren't curvy enough.Hey, who hasn't felt the pull of gravity? My knees are now where my ankles used to be.I looked at the gal on screen with great compassion and understanding. I also looked at her and thought, "Sweetie ....

Reality television shows such as "Plastic Surgery: Before and After" and "Dr. 90210" seem as if they'd be the perfect, free product-placement venues for plastic surgeons: They highlight the most successful, dramatic surgery and compress weeks of recovery time to fit the final minutes of an hour or half-hour show.A new study suggests that is, indeed, how such shows work. People who seriously consider surgery often regularly view surgical makeover shows.A team led by Dr. Richard Crockett of the Yale University School of Medicine studied ....

by Jodi DaynardI'll admit it: I've been traumatized. Every time I turn around, another of my beloved actors has had "work." Last time I watched the Academy Awards, more than two years ago now, Antonio Banderas was slapping Melanie Griffith on the butt and saying, "I like her sexy." Sexy, fine. But at fifty, did she have to look twenty-five? The woman's face was nearly unrecognizable; her lips looked like they'd been stung by a nest of bees.Everyone is having "work" nowadays. Even stars I never thought would stoop to it, like Michael D ....
