Titan procedure is alternative to plastic surgery

Aging is inevitable, as are a few wrinkles as we get older. For people concerned about plastic surgery, there is a non-invasive option to tighten-up.

"They say 60 is the new 50 so I want to look like 50 instead of 60," said Sally Page of Indianapolis. Page turns 60 this week and was seeking a beauty boost.

"I didn't want to do anything invasive. I don't believe in plastic surgery. I don't believe in being in a lot of pain," she said.

Dr. Janet Turkle offers an option called Titan, which is similar to Thermage.

"I think Titan is quick in comparison and probably a little less painful," said Dr. Turkle.

The idea is to heat up the skin to promote collagen growth. Thermage does it with radio frequency. Titan uses infrared light. The idea is to tighten the skin.

"It's the kind of thing where on the front of thighs where the skin gets a little bit crepe-y I don't have a surgery for that so it's nice to have something that is useful for that," said Dr. Turkle.

"The area that bothers me the most is from the nose down the gobble; we have gobbles in our family," said Page, pointing to her chin and neck.

The treatment requires three half-hour visits.

"Color and pigment doesn't seem to matter. I do think that the thinner skin seems to respond a little better," said Dr. Turkle, speaking about the skin types that respond best to the treatment.

"The results are gradual because you are basically remodeling collagen and the results take up to four to six months to culminate," said Dr. Turkle.

But some patients see gradual change immediately. "I'm just hoping people would say to me, 'Oh, you look so refreshed' and but you know I blew it by doing this interview because it's like, 'Hi, everybody, I'm having this done!'" Page said.

Titan costs anywhere from $1,800 to $3,500 depending on the area treated. While there is no promise of stopping time, it may turn back the hands a little.

"No matter how hard we try, we are going to age. We can do it gracefully and feel good along the way. Why not?" said Turkle.

Dr. Turkle is one of 11 area medical facilities offering the Titan procedure.
