Get rid of trouble spots without liposuction

A local doctor has an easier way to get rid of troublesome bumps and bulges on your body without having to pay a fortune.

Fourteen years after she won a silver medal at the 1993 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, Carese Busby still considers herself an elite athlete, but even she has problem areas.

I'm sure that I share that opinion with other women that exercise and diet, and there's still those darn stubborn spots that you think you're targeting with the exercise but they just don't go away," said Busby.

That's why she decided to try Lipodissolve -- injections to melt away fat in her upper thighs and waist.

"It works really great in areas where there are small amounts of fat. I think if someone has large amounts of fat that they want to have removed, they would probably be better off to go ahead and have liposuction surgery," said Dr. Barbara Schell, Cosmetic Surgeon and Dermatologist based in Seattle

Schell has been offering Lipodissolve for several years now. She says the injected solution mimics the body's own enzymes.

"It goes in, it gets into the fat cells, it breaks the fat down and our body just washes it out," said Schell.

Lipodissolve can treat any part of the body from double-chins to ankles.

The cost is $250 a treatment. How many you'll need depends on the area being treated. Saddlebags take four-to-eight treatments and tummies take up to 20.

But it's generally much cheaper and less invasive than surgery, and patients like it because it's quick.

"They can come in for Lipodissolve and have it done in literally 15 minutes. They're in and out. They're back to work, back to their normal activities. Nobody even knows they've had it done," said Schell.

Although the procedure is considered quite safe, Dr. Schell says there are still risks, so it's important to do your research.

This is your body, this is a medical procedure. You don't really want to go to the mall," said Schell.

Patients with pre-existing medical conditions like cancer or diabetes are not good candidates for Lipodissolve.

Lipodissolve can be used on it's own or in combination with liposuction or body thermage.
