Laser eye surgery, more services for Tobago
Laser eye surgery, upgrades for the accident and emergency and maternity wards at the Scarborough Regional Hospital and start up of construction of health facilities at Moriah and Golden Lane are some of the new projects to be undertaken by the Division of Health and Social Services in the 2008 fiscal year.
Health and Social Services Secretary Oswald Williams disclosed these plans during debate on the 2008 Budget last week Thursday night.
The absence of a CT Scanning Unit at the hospital, which was criticised by the Gladys Gaffoor Commission of Enquiry into the country's health services would also be established. He said the hospital laundry at Shaw Park, which has been down for some two years will be refurbished. At present laundry is sent to a hospital in Trinidad for cleaning.
The other proposed improvements in the health sector include improved dialysis service, an urgent care centre and dental services at the Roxborough Health Centre, echocardiography and oncology services and a new elevator for the hospital.
