City dental clinic performs first complete jaw permanent implant
FOR the first time in the region, a city dental clinic performed complete jaw permanent implant within a period of one hour, and involving almost no bleeding and minimal trauma to the patient.
The surgery was performed yesterday by Dr Akshay Vohra and Dr Priti Vohra of Vohra Dental Clinic. The patient, aged 75, got 32 permanent teeth in her toothless mouth.
The clinic claimed that it was the first documented case of permanent teeth implants in both upper and lower jaw, with this new surgery. "As per our knowledge, there has been no documented in the country case of upper and lower jaw implants with the technology, after it was introduced in 2005 by Nobel Biocare," said Dr Akshay.
He added that the technology requires only one hour of surgery, during which no stitching or cutting of gums takes place. "That is the reason there is negligible bleeding and minimal amount of pain involved during and after the surgery. The USP of surgery is that the teeth are immediately ready for biting into the food, right after the surgery," he explained.
Sohan Lal Pahwa, chairman of Avon Cycles; Onkar Singh, MD, Avon Cycles, and NC Gupta of Trident Group had also come for the function. Dr Vohra said that the surgery could well be the first in India. He added that there had not been any documented evidence of any similar case ever since the surgery was introduced.
Jasjot Singh, daughter of the patient on whom Dr Vohra first used the new technology, explained, "Since I am a dentist too, I know that there is a lot of swelling in the gums with the old technology, which also involves a lot of bleeding. But, the new technology takes care of all these problems. There is only a mild swelling in the gums with the new technology. In two-three days' time, the swelling goes away."
